Bishop Ivan Abrahams is presiding bishop of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa. He served as the bishop of Namibia between 1992 and 1996.
In 1997, Abrahams was appointed director of the mission unit of the Methodist Church, which is responsible for church growth, spirituality, justice and service portfolios in six Southern African countries.
Most recently, as chairman of the SA Church Leaders Forum, he led a delegation of church leaders on a pastoral visit to Zimbabwe. This culminated in the landmark call of the SA Council of Churches for new action to end the suffering of the people of Zimbabwe.
Abrahams also serves on a number of international bodies, including being co-chairman of the social and international affairs committee.
He has a BTh (Rhodes), BA Hons (UCT) and CSS (Berkeley, US), and is married with three children.
