Tanya Abrahamse is CEO of the S A National Biodiversity Institute, and former executive director of the Tourism Business Council of SA. From 1997-1999 she was deputy director-general of the environmental affairs & tourism department, where she was responsible for biodiversity and heritage, marine & coastal management and tourism. Abrahamse has led talks on the environment for various binational processes and agreements and initiated the development of the Integrated Rural Development Strategy. She was involved in the Reconstruction & Development Programme (RDP) Fund, in her capacity as chief director in the presidency's RDP unit between 1994 and 1995. Abrahamse holds a PhD in applied entomology from the University of Westminster, an MSc in applied entomology & insect ecology from the University of London Imperial College and a BSc degree in biology and psychology from the University of Zambia.
